What is planned from 2027

Swiss Post’s Volume Letter is due to launch on 1 January 2027. It is intended for small-goods consignments within the B5 format, more than 2 cm and no more than 5 cm thick.

Tracking is not a promise of liability cover

No liability extension appears among the published additional services for the Volume Letter. If you need Swiss Post liability cover, consider another shipping service.

For Registered domestic mail, Swiss Post states liability of up to CHF 500 under its terms. A B5 consignment up to 5 cm thick and 500 g is also possible. Registered mail is a separate service, not a liability supplement that can be added to a Volume Letter. In particular, check content limits, packaging requirements and liability exclusions. Current registered-mail prices are not presented here as prices for 2027.

Five steps towards suitable packaging

1. Measure the packed consignment

Check the filled, sealed packaging, not just the empty envelope. The contents, protective inserts and closure can change its outer dimensions. Measure the thickest point and weigh the contents and packaging together.

2. Consider the protection the contents need

Soft, robust items need different protection from collectables, delicate surfaces or sharp-edged components. Bubble cushioning does not replace protection against bending. Secure sharp points and moving parts; rigid packaging is more suitable for some goods. Test both a typical pack and a more demanding one.

3. Compare usable space rather than format names

C13, B5 and D14 do not guarantee a specific usable internal space. Internal dimensions, seams, closure and additional protection are what matter. A larger envelope may offer more space to arrange items, but can also exceed postal limits once filled. Allow a margin rather than relying on an exact calculated fit.

4. Consider the total shipping cost

Compare packaging, necessary inserts, postage and packing work for the same goods and quantities. A low packaging price alone does not determine the most economical solution. More space is an advantage when the finished consignment stays within the same suitable postal category.

5. Make packing repeatable

Keep scales, a measuring aid and suitable labels to hand. Record tested combinations of item, protective material and packaging. Check the consignment again whenever its contents change.

HAVERMA · IN DEVELOPMENT

Our development: HAVERMA B5

Under the HAVERMA brand, Hagen Versandmaterial is developing a lightweight paper/PE bubble mailer between common C13 sizes and larger envelopes. The aim is additional usable space for light, small goods within the intended format limit.

Development does not confirm postal suitability for every filling. The specific product version and the required evidence are still being reviewed. The one-off preorder campaign is not yet open; expressing interest now creates no order, payment or purchase commitment.

For resellers and planned factory-direct requirements

Would you like to add shipping materials to your range or source larger quantities? Tell us the product, sales market, approximate quantity and desired supply period. We will check which supply model may be suitable. A statement of requirements is neither an order nor a delivery promise.
